Kwahu citizens abroad to change the face of Easter celebrations

Mr Obrempong Ansong-Dwamena, the Coordinator of Kwahu Citizens Abroad, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said the association would use the festivities both as business and social events.<br />
<br />
This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Engaging Diasporas as Development Partners in the Kwahu Traditional Area.”<br />
<br />
Activities lined up include a homecoming event and fundraising dinner at Alisa Hotel in Accra on March 24, 2018 as part of efforts to raise money to help develop the Kwahu Traditional Area, and a Cocktail and Networking at Liberty Gardens Dome, Accra, on Wednesday, March 28.<br />
<br />
There would be a Bonfire Night with the Police Band at Obomeng Kwahu on Thursday, March 29, and a clean-up exercise at Atibie Government Hospital on Friday, March 30.<br />
<br />
A historical sightseeing and float, health fair and educational programme would be held on March 30, and Soccer between Okwahu United of North America vs Okwahu United FC in the morning of Saturday, March 31 followed a get-together at Nkwatia in the evening.<br />
<br />
An interfaith church service at Atibie would be held on Sunday, April 1, followed by an all-white barbecue at Bepong.<br />
<br />
There would be a meeting with Okwahuman Development Partners in Accra on Monday, April 2, to run-off the celebrations.

Kwahu Easter is the annual Easter celebrations at the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. People from all walks of life and all nationality throng to the Kwahu Hills every Easter to celebrate the three-day-long holiday.<br />

This festival is celebrated in all the Kwahu communities, it is a festival of the Chiefs and people which comes off every year. Though traditionally a Christian celebration of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, it serves as a homecoming for the Kwahu. It was instituted to renew their commitment to the Christian faith.<br />

Activities:</h2>
Activities include paragliding, hiking, carnivals and street jams. For the indigenes, that is the Kwahu people, it is an annual homecoming, but for holiday revelers it is an occasion for celebrations. There are also performances by various artists.<br />

Over the years, the festival has proven that there cannot be Easter in Ghana without Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival. The festival which has been happening every year for about 10 years now, attracts both Ghanaians and foreigners to the Eastern Region during Easter.<br />

Paragliding which is a recreational and adventurous sport has numerous health benefits that visitors going to Kwahu will be blessed with after their visit. Through paragliding, you can burn 230 calories per hour for an average 150-pound person, due to the immense adrenaline rush experienced while flying.<br />

Also, it helps create confidence and enables you to overcome fear of heights. When para-gliding, you focus on the task and nothing else. You forget all your worries and the usual distractions of life. The intense focus coupled with adrenaline rush makes you feel cleansed mentally and physically.<br />

Hiking the Odweanoma Mountain in Atibie is another activity that visitors explore during their short stay in Kwahu. Visitors take a hiking expedition to the mountain through the 'Nkofieho' Caves of Life.<br />
